Few people realize that man has already attained immortality; it's merely been abused, forgotten, and renamed Writing. -Brian Egan

Time to Take Responsibility

I'm back.

No.

Yes.

No.

I'm sorry, old friend, but that's the way it is.

I don't have to listen to you.

No, you're right about that. You don't ever have to listen to a word I say... but you will.

...

Don't be so down. You're just like any other.

...

You knew I'd be back eventually! I mean, honestly, did you think you could run forever?

I'm not.

Not what?

Not like any other.

Of course, of course. How could I have not seen? Every day I attend to thousands - millions of people. Each and every one of them the same. But you. You're special. You're... different. How could I have mistaken you for one of them. So sorry to inconvenience you, I'll be on my way then.

...

I don't see what the big fuss is all about. I'm not making good people do bad things. I'm keeping bad people from doing good things. I'm not trying to alter you in any way. You don't have to change to be accepted by me. I accept thousands a day just the way they are. Cold and lifeless.

...

I seem to remember you being more talkative the last time we met. What happened?

You're right.

I'm right you were more talkative last time or you realized I was right while I was away?

You're right right now.

It's about time you came to your senses.

Yes. It is about time.

Well then, should we proceed wi-

It's about time I realized who you are and where you come from.

...I'm the devil, son. I come from hell. Surely you know this?

You're not the devil and you're not from hell.

...Alright. I'll play your game. If I'm not the devil, then who am I?

...

Well?

Surely you already know.

Why?

Because you're me.

Battles of Binary

One on none
Sword on shield
A fight to the death
That which is battles that which is not
Toiling in an endless program
Unique and inconsequential
Beginnings and beginnings
Depending on your point of view
Champions and nobodies
On and off
Locked in eternal combat
Where compromise leaves division
And the battle rages on

Death of the Dominym

While reading through William Wordsworth's Lucy Poems in school today, I noticed something odd.

It was written in Dominym form.

Which means WW went back in time and stole my idea. (Or forward in time, depending on how you look at it)

Is there no justice?

Requiem for Rhyming

If I could write a poem
without the use of rhyme,
the things I could accomplish!
Just think of all the crime

that plagues our nation daily,
it's running in the streets.
And think of little Kaylee;
new shoes upon her feet

to help her run from bullies...
But wait, please stay a bit
there isn't rhyming up there,
three lines per stanza, twit.

Emotional Tension

I sincerely believe that poetry, by its very nature, exists as a release for emotional tension. not just negative emotions either - I theorize that some people have it within their very character to experience life more intensely than others. Some of these people find outlets in athletics or petty bar-fights while the poet tries to let his feelings out delicately, so as not to destroy himself either in the letting go or the withholding of such feelings. Critics of poetry might wonder how someone could spend entire stanzas examining one solitary tree, while to the poet the tree represents so much more. Say, for example, the tree represents the loneliness felt by the poet in his childhood. Yet, even then, there is a distinction between whether this association is subconscious or planned out. In any case, poetry is about human emotion. Because aside from words, what else could it be?

And then I ran out of space on the paper.

Be kind...

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.

I don't really believe that. Of course, I've never been much of an absolutist. That is, anyone I meet might be fighting a harder battle. Isn't it all conditional? Don't be nice because you have things better, be nice because it's the right thing to do. I guess my opponents will chalk that down to my religious beliefs. To hell with them. You have to bring a man in to beat down his writing, it just means you're not man enough to do it yourself. But anyway, back on topic... it's the right thing to do, I won't lie... that is the Christian edict. Even in the sermon I heard just this morning our Vicar said that every commandment can be boiled down to "love your neighbor as yourself." Though, that was straight from scripture so I guess I shouldn't glorify the Vicar over it. But he's spreading it, just as I am now, and that takes a courage all its own. So yes, it is a Christian ideal - not exclusively of course. And that's the point. Taking religion out of the picture, is being unconditionally nice still the right thing to do? I think so. Why? Think about it - it may not work out so well in todays society... but why? Because not everyone is doing it. Not everyone is being kind to one another. Imagine if they did just that. That's my point. I suppose I could count religion along with that, but I won't violate your trust nor insult your intelligence - that's key. Thats an important step that a lot of people miss.
